La Verdellada, one of  La Laguna's tackier districts

La Laguna

Versión española

Photo 1: An "inhabited" house at the bottom of a ravine lying between Barrio Nuevo and La Verdellada districts of La Laguna. The Vía de Ronda highway runs along the top. Few motorists whizzing along on Tenerife's multi-million dollar road have the remotest idea of what lies at the bottom of this sordid ravine.

Bridge over the ravine in La Verdellada district

Photo 2: This rusting and now unsafe metal bridge crosses the ravine dividing Barrio Nuevo and La Verdellada districts. The bridge carries an overhead sewer pipe - the real reason it was built in the first place. Now the structure's dangerous state has led to the bridge being closed to pedestrians (although sewage continues to make the journey unhindered). But then what else can one expect in La Laguna, a city declared a World Heritage Site?
