La Laguna

Versión española

Photo 1: This is La Cuesta (La Laguna), which borders the Santa Cruz municipality. Both local councils vie with each other to produce the worst possible urban development. At usual, the local power company - UNELCO - has pitched in with its badly-sited electricity pylons and high voltage overhead cables. To the right is a school (La Pureza de La Cuesta), which juts out over a deep ravine.

Photo 2: Another photo of the school. The fenced area on the roof is actually the playground. Look carefully and you will see mobile phone aerials at the corners of the roof. The Island's authorities may have ended caning but they seem to have nothing against exposing children to microwave radiation.

Photo 3: Look very carefully and you will spot a man in a wheelchair (dead centre). The Council seems incapable of building zebra crossings, let alone special crossings for the disabled. High kerbs and earth banks make it impossible to cross the road in a wheelchair, forcing the man to risk life and limb. Handicapped tourists and those considering retirement in Tenerife take note! This is La Laguna, World Heritage Site.
