La Laguna

Versión española

Photo 1: This is the horrid urban landscape at Playa de la Barranquera (Barranquera beach), to the north of La Laguna. The place is a grim lesson on how not to do things. It is just a few yards away from one of Tenerife's best reserves of coastal flora where many protected plants are to be found.

Photo 2: Let's have a closer look at La Barranquera. The photo shows a block of houses like so many others on the island. The arrow indicates where a balcony has just been tacked on to the wall of the neighbouring house. This total lack of planning and forethought is all too typical of Tenerife and yet another example of the island's Third World approach to urban development. Can this be La Laguna, World Heritage Site?
